UPDATED: What is Denton County Weather's Coverage Area? Here's a FULL Explanation.

You may hear DCW refer to the 'coverage area' of our page. So, what does it actually mean, and when do certain areas receive coverage from my DCW page? Here's the full explanation.

Denton County Weather is a page meant to not just cover Denton County, but surrounding counties as well. This is why our name can be somewhat tricky and misleading. We do cover a huge portion of DFW, even though I call the page 'Denton County Weather'. I have had thoughts about changing this name for a while to something else that would include most of DFW, but I have not found a good name to replace the current name with.

To get back to the main story, WHO do we cover for all types of weather?

Yellow Shading - All 7-day forecasts and hourly forecasts are based out of the Yellow-shading, Denton County. More specifically, the temperatures are based for Flower Mound, TX. However, the temperatures are very similar throughout the county (usually slightly warmer in Southeastern Denton County, slightly cooler in Northern Denton County by a degree or two)
Purple/Pink Shading - The purple/pink shading refers to the area that is covered during all severe weather. These counties are also included in our % coverage predictions for precipitation and severe weather when making a prediction. I will always post tornado or severe t-storm warnings for these counties.

Now, here's the confusing counties and shadings...

Blue Shading - This is when the shadings get a bit confusing. Hang in there! The blue shaded counties are ALWAYS covered in live streams, but are not the primary focus due to a lesser population of followers from these counties. However, I will cover them! Severe T-Storm warnings may not always be posted in these counties either on Facebook/Instagram. Tornado warnings/watches will ALWAYS be posted if one is issued in any of these counties.
Orange Shading - This shading is also quite confusing. The orange shaded counties are not really 'apart' of DCW's coverage area. However, I will occasionally post warnings in these areas if:
A. They have an upcoming impact on DFW
B. A tornado warned cell is within 10-20 miles of the coverage area.
Otherwise, I usually won't talk about those areas very often.

Gray Shading - There are only THREE counties included in the rare gray shading! This one is pretty self-explanatory. The only reason why I'd post about one of these counties is if a storm has an upcoming impact on DFW. If there is a tornado warned storm that is not coming towards North Texas, I usually won't post about it in those areas.

Obviously, we do cover hurricanes and other systems that may not affect our area, so that's not included in this coverage area. I also post broad watches and outlooks that may include areas that aren't even shaded!

Even if you aren't in a shading, I will still try to help you out with any type of weather that comes your way! Hopefully this cleared up SOME confusion, even though this is even more confusing than my first coverage area post haha.
